In 1922 Walter Twetten and his brother Seymour bought a furniture store on Grand Avenue from the King Brothers. The devastating Spencer fire of 1931 totally destroyed the store and disrupted its operation for many months. This tragedy was followed by the hardships of the Great Depression and then World War II. Despite shortages of home furnishings, business boomed and continued during the postwar period. After years of providing northwest Iowa with fine quality furniture and floor coverings, Twetten's was invited in 1952 to become a dealer member of the prestigious Grand Rapids Furniture Makers Guild.

In 1955 Jerry Twetten joined his parents, Walter and Laurene, in the business and was instrumental in establishing an interior design studio. Twetten's Interiors offers design assistance and reviews building and landscaping plans. It is exciting to relate that Twetten's now serves clients from coast to coast.

In 1967 a new building, designed by Jerry Twetten, was built at 120 East Fifth Street, with showrooms surrounding the central atrium, presenting an ideal setting for the furnishings offered. The comfortable home-like groupings reflect the "casual elegance," for which the store is known. Twetten's is noted for its unique accessories and antiques from all over the world. Twetten's Interiors carries on the tradition--established through the vision and enterprise of Walter and Laurene Twetten--of offering fine quality furnishings to an ever-growing clientele.

Twetten's Interiors is still growing and changing, but our commitment to exceptional customer service and distinctive interior design remains the same. In November of 2004, Jerry and Sandy opened another store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, located at 26th and Minnesota. After 87 years of service in Spencer, IA, in May of 2009, Twetten's Interiors moved the Spencer design studio to a new store in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Please visit us soon in either our Sioux Falls or Spirit Lake studios.
